How to add an international phone number in Whatsapp contact?

To add a contact in Whatsapp that contact number must be in your phone address book. Whatsapp add contacts directly from the phone address book so it is necessary to add the contact number in a proper way in your phone contact list first.

If you like to add a local number that means you like to add a contact the one from the country you staying just enter the phone number in phone address book as if you can call that one from your phone.

Now let us see how to add an international phone number in Whatsapp contact?

To add international contact the phone number of that contact must be properly added in the following way in your phone address book.

• First start the number with a plus sign (+).
• Then write the country code of that contact.
• After that enter full phone number, remove special calling codes and leading ‘0’.

For example: The US phone number is 123-4567 with area code 201, then you need to add this number in phone address book as +12011234567. The country code of US is 1. Always make sure to remove leading 0's and special calling codes.

General format is <+><country code><area code><phone number>

But there are some special cases

• To add one contact from UK with phone number 07400XXXXXX, you must add phone number in your phone address book as follows. Add a plus first. (+). Then add the country code. Then enter the phone number, avoid the leading 0. So finally the number would be +447400XXXXXX

• In Mexico you need to add  phone number (10 digits) after +52.                                      

           Example: +52XXXXXXXXXX(Total 12 digits.)

• In Argentina mobile numbers (+54) is the country code. After +54 you need to add 9  then phone number.   

         Example: +5491123456789(Total 13 digits.)
