Always try to avoid clicking the links you getting in your email inbox from unknown email ids. There are cases that the virus links are even being spread from the known peoples email ids. If you feel an email link irrelevant better avoid that link.

Many sites like Facebook, Orkut, Google Plus etc send the notification mails to the email id. Although they are genuine it is recommended to go to that website directly through a browser. And if you like to see the content in the link avoid clicking directly, just copy the link and paste it in the address bar of a browser in a new window.

Not only that the chances to retrieve your id are high because email service providers send you new password to the primary or secondary email id you provided at the time of registration.
